Help with choosing

I have decided to buy a new folder and I have looked at 3 particular folders: Spyderco Manix 2, Cold Steel Code 4 Tanto and Ontario RAT

This might be a vivid question but which performs best (cutting/piercing tasks), I don't really care which is cheaper.

Thanks in advance guys!

The Manix'll have the best cutting geometry of the 3. The Tanto should pierce better, though that doesn't mean you can't stab stuff with the Manix. You definitely can. All that said, the Manix is one of my favorite knives of all time. It's a fantastic knife and it'd be my first choice as well.

Manix is the way to go. It's a tried and true workhorse.

The RAT always seemed more like the Military to me, so I'd say it's not comparable to the Manix.

If you’re going purely for cutting performance, then it’s going to be the Manix without question. Full flat grind and a leaf shape blade = ideal for almost every application. It also has the benefit of not having thumb studs on the blade that could get caught in whateven material you are cutting.

If you have your heart set on one of those three. The Manix is the only real choice. However, the Manix is a MAJOR pocket hog. If that is a bother to you I would say get a RAT in D2. The Code 4 is a good knife, but the other two outperform it in most cutting tasks.

Manix 2 is a really good work knife. A bit wide in the pocket though. Else I'd choose the Rat. Or if just get a cold steel American lawman in xhp.

☝This.

And I'll add that the Manix 2 is a knife which Spyderco offered in several different steels and handle materials (sprint runs, dealer exclusives, etc). I've got an S90V/Carbon fiber version that's lovely.

It's a bit of an unfair comparison since the Rat is a budget knife, and it's a really good knife if you take the price into account.

The Code 4 is great, but I think it is a bit behind the Manix in sheer cutting performance. It's a nice slim package with what is probably the strongest lock available on a production folder (and it's also cheaper than the Manix).
