Can this knife be thought of as traditional ?.

It is a Gerber Folding Sportsman 2.

I think that it can be classified as traditional, because it is a contemporary of the Buck 110.

What are the forum members thoughts on this ?.

I would classify that as a traditional knife. Following here the materials the knife is made of, is pretty traditional. Brass liners/bolsters, lockback mechanism, no onehand opening knife, wood handle inlay

A nice knife! It looks a little like a Buck 110, but it´s definitely no copy (to me). Thanks for sharing :)

They look traditional enough to me, Astrogator. Gerber made some fine knives, back in the day. You've got one of them right there.

Prior to the buyout by Fiskars, Gerber used to be top of the line for sportsman's cutlery. That's one of the reasons their new offerings are not well regarded today. They used to be tops, now they are so far from it.

Those earlier USA Gerbers were great knives; steel is fantastic. I do have one of the smaller pocket-sized versions. I wish I'd been smart enough to get one (or a couple or three) of the bigger ones at the time. I remember occasionally drooling over them at a local cutlery shop in the mall, as a teenager.

I have a couple of the Gerber Sportsman series. Wonderful knives; heavy because they had so much brass in the frame, but durable because of it. The FS III is huge. Heavy.

The FS IID (drop point) was my favorite version. I say was, because I can't seem to put my hands on it now. It may be deep in some closet or drawer that I haven't visited in a long time. I hope it is still around here somewhere. I have an advertizing knife for Outers, et. al. which is a micarta "shadow" pattern knife. Very light. Uses the same blade as the FS 1 and the classic.

I haven't shown it here before. Maybe I need to do that.

At one time I had the entire set of them. They are incredibly well made and are among my all time favorites. I still carry this little guy quite a bit. It is definitely a heavyweight champion.

That's no little guy. You might be able to pass that off to someone that doesn't have one, but I calling you on that. It's 9" open and will double as a boat anchor if you drill a lanyard hole in the rear of it.

I have two of them and they are really good knives, but for me at least, not an EDC. If you have a deer or other large quadraped to skin out, and field dress, they are just the ticket.

Natural handle materials combined with a pattern that's been around for several decades at least, it's a Traditional in my book. :)

I carried one of those for years. Long time ago, probably in the '80s. They were really fine knives.
