Hello! After much thought I think I'm going to order a custom mini crooked river.
I've noticed a variation in color on the gray bolsters, and wonder if it's variable (like most BM anodization) or if the color has changed over time? The current option is referred to as "dark gray".
The more difficult question is on blade steel though. I want a satin blade as I don't like coatings for looks or durability. But... I really, really want M4 as it's the steel that best fits my needs. My constant carry knives for 20 years have been a 941 in 154cm, Emerson SOCFK in 154cm, and a 710 in M2. Running 34-40 deg included edges I've always had a chipping problem with 154cm...as in I find chips in the edge and have no clue how they got there. M2...if I chip it, it was a memorable event!
So... s30v, 20cv, or s90v... are any of them appreciably tougher than 154cm? I've been doing research and seem to think no, maybe, and possibly a touch. I've had a 921 in S30V forever, but never carried it much. I've recently bought bugouts in s30v and 20cv and a 940-1, but don't want wait for several months of use before I pull the trigger on the mini river!
While they don't specifically state it, the s9pv appears to be a heavy stomewash, so not much of a "satin" look like the s30v and 20cv. How do the s30v and 20cv appear visually compared to each other?
And if I break down and make the correct decision to get the knife in M4, how well does steel gray go with the dark gray bolsters? The couple 810's I've seen in person looked a little plasticy and cheap in that color I thought, but think wear may be less noticeable than black, and black really doesn't go with the look I want. I have the 710HS for that.
Please, help spend my money!
