Help with Etching

Hello BF, I have read a ton on here and feel like I have tried multiple method but still feel like I am having issues.

I have the personalizer plus. I have stencils from Ernie.

I forget what solution I use, but I remember buying it off of recommendations from several members on here. So I know its good.

I set the personalizer plus to 4 and I do light taps on etching. About 1 second each, and do about 25 of those. Then I switch it to mark and do the same thing. When I remove the stencil I don't have a dark marking. The etch looks good and deep but the etching is weak.

I am also using some gator clips with some cotton pad rolled up, I am not using the little applicator that came with the machine (Saw some makers doing this method online).

So my question, If I just mark it only, will that rub off? Whats the advantage of etching first then marking?

Anything else you recommend that I am doing wrong? Is the #4 setting not accurate?

Thanks a lot!

1) Get a proper applicator. Cotton balls wet with solution will not work. Do this before proceeding to any of the other suggestions.

2) Stop dabbing. Press the pad down gently but firmly for 10-15 seconds and then lift.
3) Make sure your leads are connected properly.
4) make sure the blade is scrupulously cleaned.
5) Only use enough solution to dampen the pad. It should be blotted and then used.
