How To Help with ferric chloride

If I understand your question correctly, I dont think I would try mixing 2 chemicals like that with out a lot of research. It is possible they could react or causing some kind of off gassing or other toxic reaction. Or most likely not work well.

In my very limited and possibly flawed understanding,:) ferric chloride works by etching metal as an extremely corrosive acid. If I understand correctly it reacts with some of the elements in steels and removes them, leaving the outside layer with a larger amount than normal of elements not as effected by the acid. Cold blue like birch wood casey on the other hand uses copper molecules that bond to steel and then are turned black by selenium actually adding a slight layer. I am going to guess ferric chloride would probably corrode both elements weakening the acid and probably making the acid less effective, but I am not a chemist and dont claim to be! I know enough to recommend not trying it with out further research. :)

Also, Check out the shop talk section! Its got all kinds of information and you would probably get more answers there.
