looking to get my first real flashlight. i've done some looking around but truth be told i have NO idea what i'm looking at. i know that the i can't really spend more then $40 maybe $45. I want the power switch on the butt of the light. I don't really care about all the different modes like strobe and beacon and that stuff. would prefer a low medium high settings. thanks for the help everyone

I just gave my sister a fenix e11, clicky and if you don't know much about lights then it'll be plenty bright, it's labeled at 105lumens. I got it at a local gun show for $28 out the door. AA battery. I will prob pick up a few more to give away.....and another one for me. :D

I'm really happy with my Fenix E21, two AAs, clicky on off, twist cap for 150/40 lumen select...around $30, with shipping included

is that the neutral tint version?

To the OP, what is the intended use?

TX180SX...I have 64 year old eyes, but don't see an appreciable red or blue...did not keep the spec sheet

the intended purpose would be to have incase i need to shine some light. will be added to my leatherman and knife. also would be on the bedstand for those times when something goes bump in the night.......actually if it had a belt pouch/holster included or available seperatly that would be awesome

Fenix and 4sevens both offer great quality lights for a great price.

One should meet your needs. Some come with pocket clips too, which is how I carry them. I know that the 4sevens all come with holsters too.

I've carried a Fenix PD1 (bottom in the photo) for a number of years and it works well, but the newer ones with Cree LED's have much better performance. I recently bought a PD32 (top in the photo) for when I need a real light, and LD01 for EDC.

The PD32 is more than your price limit but they make cheaper ones. The PD32 uses Lithium CR123 batteries, some people prefer AA batteries and Fenix has similar models that use AA. My little LD01 uses a single AAA battery and blows away most flashlights made more than a year ago.

Believe it or not Mag has some decent models now, the XL50 is available well below your price limit and it is a good compact light with variable output modes and good output.

For your price range, anything from the streamlight pt line.If you are willing to spend a little more, anything from Surefire. I love my G2L, which was replaced with the G2X Tactical. The G2X Pro meets all your needs perfectly, high and low modes, tail switch ( not clicky IIRC, be warned) and very carryable. Made in the US of A too.

Even without having multiple levels of light, I vote for the Streamlight Microstream LED. It runs on 1 AAA battery and has a double clip on it. Rated at only 28 lumens, it literally lights up the back yard at night. Small enough I can keep it in my pocket all day, every day. I think it's the best light for $20 I have ever bought. I have a larger Streamlight LED and a Surefire G2 that only get used for serious social work now.

Another vote for the Streamlight Microstream  I've used on as my EDC for several years at work and play never being disappointed in it.
