Ok, I've been lurking around the forums for a while now trading heavy in the knife world, but now I'm thinking of a getting a good tactical light-source. Here is what I'm seeking:

Small Tactical light
Pocket Clip
Cheap price but pretty good quality
Power and Light strength aren't that important, I mean I want it nice and bright, but it doesn't have to break any records for brightness

I know a bunch of you "Tac-Light" gurus have some good suggestions, so let me have em...

What do you mean by tactical, exactly? Do you want a light with high output, as well as strobe and S.O.S. functions? Are CR123 batteries alright, or would you prefer something with AA or AAA batteries? Would you like an assault bezel?

First thing that comes to mind is a Fenix LD20 or PD30. The turbo modes offer quick access to bright light or strobe. After those two, my thoughts turn to a 4sevens Quark Tactical AA² or CR123². After that, I picture a Solarforce L2P with an assault bezel and a Thrunite XPG-R5 one-mode drop-in.

All those you mentioned are right in line with what I'm seeking, though I would prefer AA or AAA bats over CR123, that Quark AA looks really good, Thanks for the input

quark series made by fenix. awesome lights with pocket clips. tight pocket clips too. i have 2 the AA2 and the 123' (2) as well. both are fantastic for the coin

Thanks everyone for the input... Tostig that little Maratac is awesome

i recently got a streamlight microstream. uses 1 aaa, has a good switch, pocket clip, and has about 30 lumens iirc.

cost was about $20.00.

I was checking them out on knifeworks dot com, great looking, I had a streamlight scorpion, it was ok.

I have personaly a few from Fenix and also Hellfighter. on my site I sell 100's of lights from basic to tactical and cheap to expensive. check em out. I can save you some cash as well and move you to a better light and still pay what your comfortable with.

The ITP A3 EOS runs on 1 AAA and puts out 80 Lumens. It costs around $20.00.

I was looking into a single AA torch as well and settled on the Nitecore Defender Infinity. The piston drive on the D10 sounds neat, but i liked the exterior design of the NDI a little more.

Through my two days of research though, I've found that the D10 or NDI would serve just fine.

I gave Quark AAs non tactical models for xmas this year and everyone loved them. They make a tactical model as well but both have the same available modes the non tactical is just not programmable. I prefer the non tactical model because the switch does not protrude so it can be used tail standing. Either has a low mode that is very useful for checking on sleeping kids or mid night head trips without completely waking yourself with bright light and it will go for, IIRC, ten days on a single AA in that mode.

Fenix or Nitecore both make quality lights that will last a long time (I have a few of both)

If you get one that takes CR123A batteries, there are sites on the net that sell them for a dollar a piece.

Quark isn't made by Fenix, although it's easy to understand the confusion. The guy who owns Quark also sells Fenix, and used to be one of the few, if not the only to sell Fenix. With much input from his perspective customers, he then designed Quark.

I very much like my Quark AA, but am considering Zebralight's so-to-be-released 1AA flashlight with side clicky.

(Sure are a lot of flashlight threads lately.) :)

compared with today's lights, the scorpion sucks. im not a huge fan of streamlight in general, but i think the micro is great.

That Nitecore D10 may just be "THE" light for me!

nitecore clips suck. the tiny screws back out and the hex heads are easy to strip.

nice lights and very bright, though. also, if you don't keep the piston drive oiled, the switch won't work smoothly. i think the infinity is a better light and i prefer the rubber "boot" type switch after having both. i find it has better tactile feedback than the piston.

but keep in mind, i tend to be harder on my lights than my other gear.

Take a look at Brightguy.com for information. They have well-organized lists by battery type of many of these brands, and pretty complete specs on each light.
