I need a good assisted opening knife for edc. I like the design of the Cryo 2 lots but I read that the blade steel isn’t very good. If anyone has a recommendation for a similar knife with better steel or if anyone has the Cryo 2 and the steels fine then I’ll get that. I can’t spend much more than $60.

For the money Kershaw is a good value. I loved the Cryo2. The steel is fine for everyday uses. I can get a hair shaving edge on it very easily. I was impressed with the action of the knife and it carries well and cuts everything I ask it to. Sure there are more exotic steels on the market but not for the price and value. For a little more if you might find the Link or the Dividend in m390 that would be awesome too they have a different feel in the hand and it will come down to personal preferences. Dont be worried about the Cryo 2 it will serve you well and if you hate it they usually sell well on the exchange too.

Thanks, it’s nice to have someone else’s opinion. I think I’ll get it.

Save up and get a ZT 0350, or try a Kershaw 1550 Blackout. Both are fast and as much value as you can expect for their price tag. Even more for the Blackout :)

Might reconsider assisted though if you're looking for something really tough.

My buddy's amplitude had the torsion bar break after a couple weeks. I took it apart to convert it to a manual for him and the torsion bar had warped the lock face when it broke so the knife was pretty much unusable.

Have 2. One in 420HC and one in M390 I just picked up.
The M390 one is being sharpened by a member here. Link to me is an awesome knife..and user, as you won't be afraid to abuse it ;)

Where did you find one with M390

Buy the Ruike 801. It is way less than 60$ but better than many $100 knives. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

I know it's not assisted but despite running on washers mine flips great so I have no qualms recommending the cheap delights of the Steel Will Cutjack (FRN + D2 version, well under your budget).

Looking at it it appears to be a good knife, but I would prefer to buy from a bigger brand(like Kershaw). Plus the link is mad in the USA

I believe the Cryo has 8cr13mov blade steel. I can tell you that this is a decent budget steel that will serve you well. The Kershaw Link would be another good option. It has a 420hc blade, this steel doesn’t hold an edge as long as 8cr13mov but is much more corrosion resistant.

I understand where you are coming from and when I first got into knives I would probably believe the same thing.

However imho the Ruike 801 is way better than most Kershaws. Unless you are getting one of the Links with upgraded steel.

Where do you get the good links. I just read a review on the 801 and the reviewer said that after light camping the action got filled with debris. The company offers a warranty but it is invalid if anything is done to the knife, like taking it apart to clean.

Google kershaw guy. He lives in my city, my lady used to work for his wife. He's a really nice guy and knows his kershaws. If anyone has an m390 link id bet he does
