Need a little more info to to tell you what I think the best course of action would be.
Is it a production folder, and what kind? Really, if its from a reputable company, or pretty much any custom knifemaker you should be able to contact them and they should make it right.

If its a linerlock, one thing you can try is to open the knife and then bend the blade towards the side it rubs when its closed. Don't force anything, or try to actually "bend" the blade but put some stiff side pressure on and see if that pulls things into alignment.

Got a picture? What type of knife is it? Is the tip hitting the side of the liner or at the tip of the liner? If it is hitting the side you may be able to just snug (or loosen) the pivot screw, or you may need to bend the frame. Or, my favorites, get a bigger hammer or a coarser grit on the grinder!

Thank you for your replies Bruz and matt. it is a custom which id rather not start a flame war with the maker here, seems they were too busy to consider 2nd hand work on another folder i have.

the problem started with the stop pin coming free, i repressed it back in and fitted washer...anyway... the tip rubs the lock side only at the very very tip. its striking the edge of the liner (corner).the blade is flat on that side-chisel grind- and i tried stoning the tip and adjusting it by hand. was going to try to put another washer on that side thats thicker, then the detent wouldnt engage???

any suggestions???

First snug the pivot bolt the way you like it, then loosen the back spacer screws a little. Now open the knife half way and pull the blade from right to left or left to right, close and check for center. When you get it right snug up the spacer screws. If this doesnt work you have a of center pivot hole or bent liners.
