I am getting married in August, and I am looking for grooms men gifts. I was thinking of getting them a nice pocket knife, or another creative idea. I would like to keep this gift around $40 but would go higher if it was a great idea.
Thanks for all you help with ideas.

you can get some real nice spydercos in that price range.

or a nice sak or multi-tool.

First, congratulations.
second, do they like knives? What you buy them might vary with their level of interest.
MORIMOTOM made good suggestions, for a pocket tool you might look at a Leatherman Micra. Even non-knife guys admire mine.

Congrats! Here is a thread I started with the very same question...lots of good suggestions.

ditto on the leathermans they were a hit at my wedding. My brother gave us monogrammed steel flasks at his, cool, but I don't use that nearly as much.

the leatherman micra is an exellent idea. i dont know if they come in blister packs, but if not, it should be easy to have them monogramed as well.

i think everyone who has been in a couple weddings has received a flask at some point. nice, and sentimental, but perhaps not that useful. at least not nearly as useful as a micra. that is something they will use nearly every day.

I'm getting married this spring and have to deal with the same problem.

What I'd suggest is look at who you are buying these for. Are they all the outdoors types, or are they office types. A SAK is a great idea as is Micra or a Fenix light, but are they going t us them or are they going to sit in their dresser something you'll have to think of? After some thinking I've settled on getting them Flasks (only one of five has one).

Myself I was originaly going to try to get some Prybabies, but that seems like it might not be possible by my wedding. Then I realized my friends might not enjoy them as much as others might.

My brother just recently got married, he gave us the choice of a silver flask or a Zippo with our names inscribed. I chose the Zippo.

I also went with SAK's when I got married. I gave out the climber model with a nice leather case to each of the groomsmen and ushers.

Congrats on your upcoming marriage ! Leatherman Micras are great, - real useful - think I've got about a half dozen of them myself. If you want something that looks very nice & classy and is only about $ 55 check out an AG Russell Mini Lockback - a nice gentlemans knife (or good to carry in the small watch pocket of your jeans) of excellent fit & finish for not a lot of money. Just got mine in black micarta with red spacer below the bolster. They also have cocobola wood and white bone versions. VG-10 blades.

www.agrussell.com (Search on the website under AG Russell as manufacturer and under lockbacks and youll see the listing for the mini-lockback.) Regards, - -

I think the small multi-tool idea is an excellent one. I think the Leatherman Squirt P4 is a nicer tool than the Leatherman Micra, personally. Also, a SAK, especially one with silver Alox handles rather than plastic ones, are very useful while also being classy. And whatever you get, engraving their initials or last name will help make them special.

A personal favorite of mine, even though it is not very costly, would be the Victorinox Classic SD in Alox. It is nothing to pocket, very useful and would appeal to someone whether or not they are a knife person. Probably within your $40 budget even with engraving and shipping costs.

There are no perfect groomsman's gifts. At best, they will love it and use it every day. At worst, they will have no use for it whatsoever and it will disappear in the back of a drawer to be forgotten and lost. The vast majority of groomsman gifts fall into the second category. At least with a multi tool or SAK, the worst case would be that it is only used occasionally and would still therefore be a lasting symbol of your friendship.

When giving a knife as a gift, I usually wonder how long it will be before the knife dulls and becomes practically worthless because most people don't have a sharpener or any idea how to use one. Lansky offers a "Mini Crock Stick sharpener" for only about $5 that would make a good companion gift when giving a knife to someone with no other means to sharpen it. I have one and while it does not compare to a premium sharpening system, it really can put an edge on a knife and is easy enough to use that even someone who has never sharpened a knife could probably make it work.

These are cheap-looking items and might be out of place with the formal presentation of the real gift, but it could be handed over casually at a later time.

AG Russell's "funny folder" looks like a classy item for this. Around $20, too. It reminded me of a groomsmen-type gift when I saw it in the catalog.

Anyone know anything about these? Look like good gifts. . .

For my wedding I got my groomsmen Stainless Spyderco Delica's. I got a really good deal on them on ebay. Then I took them to Things Remembered in the mall and had their initials engraved into them. You don't have to buy things from them to have them engraved. It they will fit into the machine they will engrave it. They only charged about five bucks a piece.
