help with gut hook

I need assistance on how to make a gut hook. I haven't a clue on where to start. and also, how to sharpen it. Thanks.

I'd suggest drilling a hole in the blade where you want the bottom of the hook, then sawing out the excess to form the hook profile. There are different ways to go about it, but I aim for a 'scandi' type grind to the hook with no secondary bevel (primary bevel around 12 degrees). You can rough in the bevels with chainsaw files, then finish it up and sharpen by wrapping differing grades of sandpaper around said file... take it up to 2000 grit after heat-treatment and it'll be extremely sharp.

On 4/19/2014 someone asked a similar question in this very forum and got some good answers....
