I picked up this little knife today and I am curious what the scale material is. It looks to be layered or stripes. Thanks.

Looks like celluloid.

Its called French ivory....google for complete details.........

"French Ivory" A type of Celluloid.
In the Pearl finish, it was known as "MOT" ... Mother of Toilet Seat. (those seats were made with celluloid over a wood core for a while.)

There are worse things in the world than "French Ivory".
If memory serves, French Ivory was the celluloid least likely to out gas.
