I recently sent Yangdu an email about purchasing my first kukri (I am getting a Tin Chirra Chiruwa Ang Khola 18"). But she requested that I send my credit card information by email. This worried me, not because I am distrusting, but because I am uncomfortable sending that sort of information to anyone that I don't fully know. I know HI is a wonderful company I'm simply wondering if anyone else has emailed Yangdu about the availability of a knife and then purchased it through email correspondence with HIMIMP@aol.com instead of through the normal site.

Thanks Guys

I bought mine using Paypal ....seems to be the safest way to do business online to me.

I wouldnt send my credit card details over the net under any circumstances!

Again not because of trust with HI but anyone could hack in and start spending your money!

So do NOT send your credit card details via e-mail.

Paypal is very easy to use and setup

it is safe and setting it up will take care of situations like this in the future

+1 on the PayPal suggestion.

On the rare time that I have sent my CC info by email, I have sent bits of info in separate emails. I had heard that this would decrease (but not prevent) risk.

She said a check would be fine guys. Thank you all so much for the advice. I set up a paypal for next time but I think it will be a while before I buy another knife. (or will it?)

Many transactions over the years with Uncle Bill and Yangdu have happened by credit card. You simply send the first set of numbers in one email and the last set in another. The risk lies in someone getting that info out of your emails, Yangdu would never disclose your private info to anyone. Paypal is free and is your best bet. It allows her to pack and ship as soon as you've paid. Paying by check will delay this as she will have to wait to recieve it and make sure it clears before sending out your parcel.

All transactions from the DOTD in the H.I. subforum are paid by contacting her email address, most are paid by paypal, but i'm sure that some pay by other means.

I apologize for any misunderstanding that was caused by an inadequacy of my writing. It was never an issue of Yangdu disclosing my information. I was never worried about that. It is the person that possibly hacks an email account and realizes that my credit card information is in a set of emails that I worry about. For me sending a check is the most secure way to send payment because I can get delivery confirmation and know that it got to the right person with 100% accuracy. The security is worth waiting a little extra and will be an exercise in patience for me.

Again, I thank everyone for their input.

When I order and send for stuff, I prefer to send a postal money order, if they'll accept it. You'll pay a bit extra for it (a little over a dollar), but there isn't the delay like when you send a check.
