Help with HRC tester reading

I had my blade heat treated by a local heat treat service, the video shows that the HRC hardness is 62-63 (the angle is not right on so a rough estimation is okay), but right at the first second, the dial jumped a few degrees.

So is my HRC still 62-63 or is it 60-61. Thanks

It's whatever the needle settles on at the end.

However, it appears that machine needs serious calibration.

I wouldn't trust readings off that machine.

He applied the minor load / preload off camera.

The next step is to release the major load

But he moves the dial zero off the needle, not supposed to move the zero of the dial off the needle, but we can see there is writing in the dirt on the machine that he is using to reference where to move the dial.

In the dirt

I've never seen that before o_O

That tester needs some serious love and calibration.

Thanks man, I appreciate the reply. Knife making isn't popular where I live so finding a furnace reaching my formula temp (1130C/2066F) was a real pain in the a$$, and most workshop won't take small batches/orders. This is done by a small HT service so I can't ask much of the HRC testing, but I suppose the real hardness doesn't deviates much from 62HRC, maybe 61-63, anything above 61 is fine by me.

That's a good austenitizing temp for that steel, should be fun.
