Help with hydraulic press leak

A knifemaker friend of mine built a hydraulic press for me about 2 years ago. It is slowly leaking fluid from where the filter attaches. Its leaking right around the rim. I can't seem to contact him and I am not very mechanically inclined. I was not sure if there is a seal in there that might have gone bad or if I need to replace the filter. I assume it screws in? Any thoughts would help. I use the heck out of it but unfortunately don't know all the innards.

Thanks

There is a rubber seal behind the rim of the filter. It would pay to drain the fluid if possible to keep from losing the liquid.
If it is one of the larger filters check with semi truck supply people they will have what you want.

Thanks. Thats kinda what I figured but wasn't sure. It seems to be a sealing issue. How do the filters usually come off? It has a series of screws in the whachamacallit intake where it attaches. I didn't want to mess anything up by doing anything until I knew.

If the filter is cylindrical it should unscrew counter clockwise, looking at the closed end.
