Hi guys! I hole you are all well. An old German man gave this war hammer to someone that i got it from. As per the German guy it has been a family heirloom and it the family for a long time. It has makers mark but it looks like it was marked over the original one.
Im looking for some info on age and origin or any other info.

Looking forward to your replies.

You might have better luck over on MyArmoury. It will take a specialist to determine if it's an original or if it's a later Victorian era decorator piece.

Thank you for your reply and suggestion! I will try that when they start accepting new members…

But for what i know the reproductions did not bother with makers marks. Also were built different.. lighter… maybe not as sharp…

This one feels like a real medieval weapon.

Some of the Victorian era pieces are quite well made. I'm not implying that this piece is one, but they came in a range of quality and complexity, with some of them being quite convincing to the point where they've been sold by reputable non-specialist auction houses as original only for them to later be identified as being period reproductions. This is why I mention it as being necessary to have a specialist examine it.
