Hi,
I just recieved an Indian made "dah" machete,
markings are "G.N.S. 45" "MK.III/L" "C/|\" "SA/54" and "A/66"leather scabbard is marked "COL 1945" "C/|\840"
Is this Calcutta proofed, or Canadian issued? I understand Canadian troops in North Africa were issued Indian made items in 1942, but still in 1945?
Any help with the markings is appreciated. This machete is the Indian made MK. III "dah" machete with squared blade.
Thankyou, Andy Gordon

I'm definitely no expert, but I did look in Flook's "British and Commonwealth Knives on pp.200-201 where these dah machetes are shown and on p.238 where he lists marks, and it would seem to point to Calcutta proofing. If you don't already have the Flook book book,I'd recommend it.
