Bought this old folder about 20-25 years ago at a knife show. Have not been able to ID in vintage catalogs. Any info on age, value etc. would sure be appreciated. Mucho Thanks KaBar gents. Stamped 1041 KaBar USA. Also perhaps if any significance to KaBar collectors and where and with whom it would best belong. If that makes sense.

Knife is fairly modern, looks like 1970s or newer. I think it is more likely a good "user" than a collectible with it's delrin scales. The KA-BAR collectors I know and myself prefer to collect the knives with natural material handle scales like bone, stag, or pearl. Of course I do not know everything, there may be folks who collect delrin handles knives of this era.

Moose pattern that I'd guess was made mid-to-late 60's through mid-to-late 70's. Value is probably $30-45 in condition pictured which is actually good to my eyes.

Gunsil/Morrow -

Y'all know more than me (not hard sometimes :D), but am I correct in my assumption that model numbers on the blades indicates Cole National manufacture (or later, with the more modern Kabars)? E.G.., that an older model stamped 1232 is a C-N and a no model number version is Brown family produced? Or did the Browns start using model numbers late in their ownership and then C-N just maintained their use?

Zzzy, I do believe you're correct, no model numbers on blades until Cole National took over.

Great. I have this little "issue" of wanting to know everything I can about the knives I have. I also tend to store them roughly chronological production order. The A-R side of me really wishes everyone used some method similar to the Western/Coleman-Western method of a year code letter.

Thank you all - I had it figured pretty close. Just wanted to be sure it didn't belong in a KaBar collection. A special home if you will.

May it be the seed for YOUR growing collection of KaBars. :D Every collection starts with #1, or in this case, #1041. :D:D
