I am looking for some information on this big SOG knife.

I just took it in trade and am told it is 20+/- years old. It is a brute.

Its 12-1/8" overall, the blade is 7-1/8" long and a full 1/4 inch thick

It has a rubberized handle, brass hilt, and brass lined lanyard hole.

It looks to have a convex ground edge. There are very few markings on it.

Any information would be appreciated

I think this a predecessor of Seal 2000 Knife or Tigershark (and too Pup) - have a this one type of blade as this knives. But is nicely :) I isn´t a expert of SOG but i my opinion is this probably a oldest Seal knife.

Thanks Fred!

From what you found, I used Google and found that it may be this:

SOG12 Tech II

SOG TECH II, 7 ¼ " 440A S/S (RC 57-58) BLADE, CONTOURED BLACK KRATON HANDLE WITH BRASS GUARD AND LANYARD HOLE, HEAVY BLACK NYLON BELT SHEATH, 12 ¼" OVERALL.

Mine does have a leather sheath.

7" blade: it is the Tech II model !! Way Cool, Great Knife !! I added one to my collection about 2 years ago and I like it a lot. As you say, a brute.

It is something of the "in-between" knife in the SOG line of 7" blades. As I understand it, first of all was the Nite Tech which had an SK-5 carbon steel 7" blade. Then the next design change was the Tech II with a stainless steel blade (I'm not sure which steel). Then next was the SEAL 2000.

All are great knives !!

Cheers,

Carl

I just checked my archives......

the SOG ad for the Tech II says:
-- SOG Model SOG-12
-- the blade is 440A stainless.
-- hardness is RC 57/58.
-- blade length is 7-1/4".
-- length is 12-1/4" overall.

here is a picture of an old SOG ad flyer:

I am fortunate to have both the SOG Tech I (same knife with 6" blade) and Tech II in my collection and they are Keepers !!

Cheers,

Carl

Carl is becoming an expert (if not already) on SOG straight knives new and old...........seriously, I am very impressed .

Not only is he very knowledgable on SOG straights, he keeps good records and pictures to boot.

Robbie Roberson ;)

P.S. I took a peek at your pig again, where did you sit to drive home ?

oh stop.....  all I know how to do is find information and pass it along, no original thought in that.

besides, I'm too biased and prejudiced toward SOG knives to offer an unbiased opinion. :footinmou I just have fun.

Cheers,

Carl

p.s. my pal Piggie was in the passenger seat......
