Hi folks,

This is my first post on the forum.

I was recently given an Arbalete G. David 440, fixed blade without a sheath. While I have been able to find folding knives of that description online, I can't find the fixed blade version.

I'm interested in buying the sheath for this knife or having one made custom - any recommendations?

Here is the company - http://www.laguiole-arbalete.com/ .

G. David mainly exports folders of the Laguiole type now, as you've found. The majority of their fixed blades came in during the 80's, and 90's, with a company called Catoctin Cutlery, which closed around 20 years ago. You might be best off, sending a picture to the company, and seeing if they might still have a catalog picture handy. The sheathes weren't fancy, just standard type usually, in very thick leather.

I used to work at Catoctin Cutlery, it was located in Smithsburg, Maryland, owned by a man by the first name of Wayne. I lost contact with him over the years, don't know if he is still alive, and I don't know the circumstances as to why Catoctin Cutlery went out of business, it was a rather unique company, Wayne had a wide variety of Manufacturers that he carried, as well as offering custom knives by Bill Moran. I once had the privilege of meeting Bill when he personally delivered one of his knives to Wayne, Bill was one of a kind, I am glad to know his son continued to follow in his father's footsteps in keeping the art of Hand Made Forged Knives alive.
