Hellp,
I have a grohmann knife with the usual pouch sheath that has become a little too loose to hold the knife securely. Is there any way to shrink the leather?
or should I just put a piece of moleskin inside?
thanks in advance,
Joe

Hey forby,
Welcome to the forum!

I have a couple of Grohmann's, I love 'em! Quality blade.

I'm not sure about the leather but I'll give you an alternative. There's a fella on this forum that goes by the name Normark who makes kydex sheaths for a good number of knives. He just made me one for my Grohmann #1 and this thing is a beauty! The knife is secure and it fits like a glove, no wiggle room. No chance of the knife falling out, short of me doing something stupid!;)

This is his site:

This is just a suggestion. I like the look and feel of the leather sheaths, but the kydex is really something else!

Good luck!

You could try forming the sheath to fit the knife. Just fill the inside of the sheath with water for about 20 seconds pour it out put the knife in and work the sheath to form it to the knife. Take the knife out and dry the sheath with a hair dryer.

What I would try before re-weting the sheath, try baking it @ about 140 ,,,,keep checking it and see if it will tighten up a little. Adding a rivit or a closer stitch or 2 near the top may bring it around also.

Russell Belt Knives used to recommend gluing a small piece of leather inside the sheath in the handle portion.
This worked for me in 1965, and the sheath still fits.

Hi,
thanks everyone for the advice. I actually made it looser by wetting the sheath to form it to the handle. I thought the leather would shrink when it dried, but it didn't. I'll try heating it some just to see, but it looks like I'm going to have to try the extra leather inside.
I like kydex with my other knives, but this one is calling for leather cause it's the one I use for playing "old woodsman"
thanks again,
Joe
