I have an older Wave and the plain blade is so tight it takes sometimes two fingers to get it open but very slow. Is there a tool that can be used to adjust it? Oil isn't working.

RB, soak it in some WD40 for bit. Then work the blades in and out with slight down and up tension on the swing. That should ease it up. If not, back out the screws a touch, that will work for sure.
Good Luck buddy,

I believe it uses a Torx security bit (hole in the middle) T8 or T9. You'll need hold the opposite pivot screw while you turn the other. I use another Torx. Once you get it apart, check for rust. LM's are infamous for it.

Thanks for the reply.

I will look for a Torx security bit, thanks.

There are 2 versions of the Wave. The current one which has locking tools was released in 2004. The older one which has non locking tools was from about 1998/99.

Mine has the four outer tools that lock, but not the smaller inner ones. But I don't have the bit driver which the newer ones have (I have several individual screwdrivers).

From Wikipedia:
"In 1999, Leatherman began using liner locks on the blades of the Wave tool, which allowed it to be accessed without unfolding the entire tool."

Sorry, what I meant was the older wave didn't have locking inner tools, ie. the screwdrivers, can opener etc.

On both Waves, the outer tools (2 knives, saw and file) lock.

Yeah, mine is definitely the older one - none of my inner tools lock. I would buy a newer one, but mine is working fine and it isn't even a decade old yet, I figure it has plenty of life left in it. Mine also shows no signs of corrosion and everything still operates smoothly. I like the fact that the knives lock and I don't really think that locking inner tools matters that much to me. The bit driver would be nice to have, but I have that on my Victorinox Cybertool so it is not so vital on the LM Wave.
