I have an older Wave and the plain blade is so tight it takes sometimes two fingers to get it open but very slow. Is there a tool that can be used to adjust it? Oil isn't working.

Has it always been that tight? I've had knives with gunk around the pivot. HOT soapy water would clear that, and the blades would come out properly afterwards.

IIRC, the pivots have tamper-resistant TORX fittings. If you have a local small appliance repair shop, they probably have the correct tool to loosen it for you so you can get it cleared/cleaned/lubed and then re-tighten it...

...or, you could buy a set.

It has a 25 year warranty, try to contact the company and take it from there.

Leatherman has a good warranty, but the best fix I've ever seen for a Leatherman is to replace it with a Victorinox SwissTool.

I agree! :D

But try running it through a dishwasher, if you have one. might clear it up.

Spray the pivot with carb cleaner. If there is any gunk or dirt in there, this will clean it out. Try swinging the blade thru about 90% of it's arc around a 100 times (takes just a couple of minutes) and this will usually take care of any burrs on the blade/pivot pin/adjoining blade. If none of this works I would follow some of the previous posts.

thats the route i took after going through 4 leathermans. a pulse, wave, surge, and another surge (replacement).

i have a swisstool and a swiss tool spirit and the F&F is much better than my Leathermans.

As for cleaning it out, compressed air with warm/hot soapy water. Dawn dish detergent seems to work nicely.

Sopy water and lots of oil haven't changed a thing. I did notice the more I play with it, the tighter it's getting.
