With where the mark is located and the shape of it, sure strikes me as the indents from the jaws of a very sturdy vise. Likely dimpled the other side of the head too unless there was a piece of wood or leather in the way.

Yes the other side has the same thing on it but a little faint I really have no idea who made it all I know is it fells well and the handle has NWP burned or carved into it (probably initials that's all I can think of) I will weigh it, but it is quite lite, The top/bottom of the head have "teeth looking things".

Ahh, rats! It's just an axe. I was hoping you had a bottle of Maker's Mark that you wanted help with.

There are many un-marked axes out there. Does not necessarily mean it's poor quality (could have been made by a reputable company for a dept. store chain) but does not make it very collectible nor easy to trace the origin/history of. If this implement is mostly a 'user' then who cares as long as the fabrication and metallurgy is good.

We call those 'eye ridges'. Several manufacturers used them including True Temper/Kelly, Collins and Stiletto. Likely a few others as well. I've never seen an axe with crappy steel that had them. I've seen them with 3 on each side like yours, or 2 on one side 3 on the other, or even two on each side but not aligned opposite each other as yours is.

That I can understand! Stamping, swaging or forging directional ridges/guides within the eye of an axe head is not something a lo-bidder would (or could) do.
