Help With Microtech MSI

Hey guys, new guy here, I was hoping some of you guys could help or give me advice with something. I recently purchased some aftermarket scales for my Microtech MSI and managed to strip the pivot screw (T20), and now I’m not sure how I can get the screw out. Also, as far as a new pivot screw, will I need to get that from Microtech? Will I need to send it off to Microtech to get if fixed? If there’s any way I can fix it myself, I’d rather do that. Any help or experience anyone has is really appreciated. Thanks!

If you're in the US it's better if you send it in and have them fix it. I don't even know how you managed to strip T20, I have a feeling you were trying to loosen the captive end of the pivot, on the Socom it's the screw on the clip-side that screws in. If you're not in the US, you're gonna need a "screw extractor" bit, but before you do anything check with Microtech if they can send you a new screw. Friend of mine recently got a replacement spring for his UTX-85 so a screw shouldn't be too much trouble for 'em.

Just got my MSI, and like every other knife, I had to loosen up the pivot a bit. The bolt is on the "presentation" side, not on the clip side like on the Socom. It was definitely on there, had to use my torque wrench so I can apply enough force and pressure not to strip it. I take it back, this wasn't user error in any way, the thread locker/amount they put on there is ridiculous. I watched a few videos of disassembly before pulling the trigger, and almost everyone struggled. And not just the pivot but the rest of the screws. I'm not looking forward to taking this apart for maintenance.

Whatever happened with your situation?

I’m trying to find an aftermarket pocket clip in Ti. Does anyone know where I can find one? I’ve scoured the internet but have found nothing.

Just as another data point, I replaced my scales on my MSI with some carbon fiber ones, and the pivot was locked down and required heat to break the thread, locker free. Biggest pain in the butt I’ve experienced on a production knife.

Looks good though…

Yeah they put some real mean stuff on the pivot, but the rest of the screws barely have any threadlocker at all. At least its t20 so theres plenty of leverage.
