Have no picture but came across a short axe that was painted O.D. green. The handle was short for an axe and there was no curve to the end , it was straight. The head seemed heavy for such a short axe and the blade had a slight upward sweep at the top. Since it was painted I could not find a stamp on it. The handle did have 3 crown looking marks stamped into it near the end of the handle. I thumped it with my finger and it had a good ring to it and it seemed like it would take a good edge. The bottom of the head had a thin notch like you would use for pulling nails. The bottom of the eye tapered down instead of straight across. German, Swedish, Swiss? Any ideas would be helpful. The price was 25.00 and it will be a long drive to go and get it if it is worth the trip. The steel seemed good enough for a project regrind. Thanks, Loosearrow

Any particlar company you can think of? Would it be worth a 75 mile drive? I drive a honda civic for a commuter. Loosearrow

I have no idea, you should post a picture or a drawing.

There are many swedish axe makers: Sandvik, Hultafors... Don't know which ones have been military purveyors.
All qualities exist from pretty cheap to expensive.
Also depends from when it dates from.

Plus being a swedish army military axe doesn't mean it has to be made in sweden.

As for price, Army surplus tools are generally quite inexpensive but sometimes worth more than their prices (sometimes not).

I've never seen the 3 crown stamp on a handle
That is pretty cool
I guess some dude was stamping out handles at the Ekulsuna factory all day :(
I myself would probably drive back just so I could try and find the mark!! (or lack of)
That is the fun part
That and cleaning them up for use
Then again maybe it is just a swedish handle
wait!! 25 bucks???!!
For an old hatchet?
Forget it ;)
