I figured if there is anyone who would know the answer to this question,it would be a knifemaker. I have a stag handled knife with mosaic pins. If you were to push on the pins with a q-tip or something, they will slide right out of the sleeves they are set in.Is there anything I can do to correct this,or should I send it out to a knifemaker to correct.I'd appreciate any and all help,Thans in advance,Vince

George, should I push them out a bit ,apply,& then slide them into the glue,or put it on the surface? Thanks for your help. I almost tried this on my own,but was afraid the solvent would affect the red material that is in the pins.

VCM3,
YOU GAVE NO INFO ON MAKER OF KNIFE (FACTORY OR CUSTOM)
IF YOU PURCHASED IT NEW, I WOULD SUGGEST YOU RETURN IT FOR
NEEDED REPAIRS. IF IT IS A FACTORY KNIFE, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE
ANY PROBLEMS GETTING REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENT. IF IT IS A CUSTOM
MAKERS KNIFE IT SHOULD BE RETURNED FOR THE MAKER TO DO REPAIRS.
THE MAKER WILL MORE THAN LIKLEY BE GLAD TO DO REPAIRS AND WOULD
PROBABLY LIKE TO KNOW ANYWAY SO HIS STOCK CAN BE CHECKED
BEFORE SENDING OUT ANYMORE KNIVES WITH BAD PIN MATERIAL.
HOPE EVERYTHING WORKS OUT. RANDY

Tattooman,Thanks for the suggestions,I believe the knife to be a little old,a custom,R.W. Wilson, out of W.Virginia. I am not sure weather the pins are loose prior to me messing with it,or a result of me cleaning the stag and re-colorong it. I tried to sell this knife in F/S,and then decided to keep it.The "burnt " part of the stag appeared to have almost, like mold ,on it.Did a few searches here in the forumsabout coloring stag and bone, and re-colored it.I am pleased with my results.I contemplated sending it back to RW Wilson, but figured I'd wait til after the new year & holidays. If I can glue it,I'd like to try it.

I had this problem with some pins I made. The way I treated it was to slide the loose parts half way out on one side and epxoy them then push them halfway out on the other side and epxoy there. It was only a couple of the smaller pins inside some small tubing and I didn't want to take them all the way out. The handle was together and ground down to thickness when they came loose.

shgeo, what kind of epoxy did you use? Thanks,Vince

I use two component, 30 minute set epoxy from Hobby Lobby, or from K&G if I need some when I am ordering from them. It's a lot cheaper in the two 4 Oz bottle sets than by the injector method.

I decided it is a lot less trouble to buy pins already made when I want to use them. I don't use many mosaic these days though.

I just found that Harbor Freight has copper studs for stud welders that work great for pins. 150 2" X 1/8" studs for ~$10.00. I like copper a lot.

Thanks,Steve,and everyone.
