My Emerson has a lot of up and down blade play. How can I get rid of it?

the lock clicking is normal until the burrs wear a bit on the lock face and blade tang. some people like to apply a little coating with a #2 pencil, i just let them break in. it takes several hundred openings.

if there was vertical blade play, ie, toward the lock and stop pin, the lock or stop pin may have been damaged prior to your trade. that is definitely not normal.

if there is lateral blade play, ie, toward the scales, then a simple adjustment of the pivot will solve the problem. that is normal, as different people like different tensions on the pivot screw.

as far as feeling weak, im not sure i understand what you mean. is it the lock that feels weak, or the blade, or the whole knife?

The liner lock it self feels weak when I push it in to unlock the knife.

Are you sure this is a real Emerson?
The thick liner locks Emerson uses are highly unlikely to feel "weak", used or not.
I don't remember hearing of any counterfeit 13s, but...
Something doesn't jibe with either Emerson's rep or my personal experience with the marque.
Any pictures?

Why not send it to Emerson? I sent them my Horseman that had some up and down blade play, they fixed it right up, I had it back in a couple of weeks.

You should just send it in to Emerson, Rat. You will have a great knife that you will be pleased to use. The problem(s) you described are not the norm, but are easily fixed, as Morimotom mentioned..

Agreed. If anything, EKI locks are notorious for feeling very strong, and sometimes difficult to disengage. I've never met an Emerson with a lockbar I'd describe as being even remotely close to "weak".

We're not trying to doubt you here, just putting out ideas. If your knife is genuine, it may have been modified. If not, it could just be one of those rare production defects. You'd do well to at least give EKI customer service a call and describe your problem, and then you can decide whether or not to send your piece in.
