My new AK finally arrived in my hands today. One quick question before I start playing with it -- what's the recommended way to remove the grease (put on, I assume to protect the blades in shipping, etc.)?

Thanks.

Spidey,

What I usually do when I get a new khukuri is to wipe the grease off using a clean cloth and then for rust protection I use Marine Tough Cloth by Sentry Solutions. I believe you can also remove the grease using the Tough Cloth but I've never done it that way. Hope this helps..

Thanks for the advice. Wasn't sure if I should just wipe it off, use a solvent, soap and water, etc.

I'll just wipe it off for now.

Thanks.

Spidey, just make sure before you put your khuk away, especially if it's going to be for more than just a day or two, that you coat it with some type of good rust preventative -- khuk blades tend to rust very quickly if left unprotected -- especially in humid areas. I learned the hard way about how quickly they can rust; but I live in south Louisiana, bayou country, where humidity is a constant problem, so maybe I'm overly paranoid about rust. But, neverthelelss, it doesn't hurt to be careful.

Spidey,

I live in Maui, Hawaii which is humid in itself, and I happen to live in one of the wetter parts of Maui. So, like Steven, I can tell you that these blades can rust fast, if not protected! I've been using silicone spray on my with good success. I got that tip from one of the senior experts on the forum, as I am very new to the Khukuri/knife world. Enjoy the blade!!!!

Thanks for the continuing suggestions. I also am in a humid area. Gonna go wipe that baby down with Marine Tuf-Cloth now!
