Help with original K Bar

there is a ka bar sub-forum where you could get help, pics tell more than words. Do a search on how to post pics and describe what you got over there.

Received a ww2 k bar looking for info
What sort of info?
I have it here
Since you received it, that's probably good.

Tell them you've received a ww2 k bar and are looking for info, and that you have it there.

Then maybe follow up with some more specific questions and possibly some pics hosted on imgur or something.

The gist of it being: What does it say on the blade? What does it say on the guard? What does it say on the scabbard? What is the scabbard made of?

These knives were manufactured by a number of people, including Camllius, Ka Bar, Robeson, and a couple of others IIRC. The USN Mk2 marked knives were generally Navy issue and came in fiberglass scabbards marked with a Naval ORDinance number which roughly corresponds to the date of manufacturer (roughly). Scabbards and knives were often separated and eventually found new mates. Markings on the blade and guard will help narrow down the year of manufacture. Other details like how the butt is attached to the tang will help further. Clear pictures of both sides, the guard, the handle, and the butt with good lighting will help most of all.

Edit to add: A little baby powder rubbed into any stamped, embossed, engraved, or otherwise indented markings will make them easier to read.
