Friends,

Where can I post on the forum to ask for help in pricing a knife? Thanks!

I thought with a paid gold membership we could ask such questions? Am I just posting in the wrong area?

From the FAQ:

"WHAT IS MY KNIFE / GADGET / SPATULA / TUNING FORK WORTH ?!?!?!?!

In order to curtail potential abuse of membership privileges associated with the forums, questions regarding valuation of knives and collections are limited to those with a membership level which permits selling on this site. Accordingly, registered and basic members may not start or post in threads with such requests whether with the intent to sell or for informational purposes only. This rule applies throughout the site.

In other words, without a paid Gold membership, you don't get to ask about sale values. Too many people abused this question to hint they had a knife for sale, which you need that membership for."

Hey JP - it is a little different in the Traditional Forum, from one of the sticky's:

Per the rules of the exchange and in furtherance of curtailing potential abuse of membership privileges associated with the forums, questions regarding valuation of knives and collections are limited to those with a membership level which permits selling on this site. Accordingly, registered and basic members may not start or post in threads with such requests whether with the intent to sell or for informational purposes only. Even with that caveat, the Traditional forum is probably not the proper venue for such questions and such threads may be moved to a more appropriate area of the site.

This sub forum is non commercial. Any talk of how much or where you can get a knife are frowned upon.

I had it drilled into my brain a lot when I first got here.

Thanks for the info friends - perhaps I should try the "general knife discussion"?

Personally I've never moved a thread made by a Gold member for asking a value question about a traditional knife. I don't recall Frank doing that either. He might correct me though.

Post some pics if you can. That will make it easier.

OK, here are some pictures. Another member recommended I post in the Bernard Levine forum; which I did.

I have only moved posts by Gold members asking price if I felt they would be better answered in Levine's Forum.

I have no direct answer for a price. But the rule of thumb is to look at eBay for the bid history of completed auctions for a similar knife, then assume the 2nd highest bid is what your knife would bring.

Could also depend if there is a serial number on the bolster or not. This would halp determine age....older generally being more desirable.

I've also been wondering about this one, it seems I've always misunderstood the situation. Since it seems that, contrary to what I'd previously understood, this forum IS a proper place to ask pricing information for those who have Gold Membership and above, would it be possible to have a clarification on what this (highlighted) actually means? I erred the other day when there was another pricing enquiry, and like Whetstone, I referenced the forum guidelines. I ask because I'm honestly confused, no disrepect intended to anyone. I just don't remember seeing threads like this previously. I'm happy to delete this if my question is inappropriate

Thanks :)

Jack
