Help with Satin Finish

Hi folks,

I have gotten through the tempering (differential) stage and am in need of some advice. Should I be doing the etching (to bring out temper line) before or after doing a hand, satin, finish? Also, when doing the hand finishing (want to do the blade, including the ricasso with same finish), how do I go about sanding the plunge? That is do I start my sanding stoke from back of the guard or scale and just pull the sanding block right over the plunge, forward, and visa-versa?

Many thanks,

Dana,
If you do the sanding down to 600 grit or finer the temper line will appear on its own. A satin finish is Satin hand rubbed. Etch if you don't care about it being satin any more.
Etchant will eat it away.
Do the ricasso area first, take the sanding block and rock it into the plunge and draw towards the tip in one motion.
Do a full stroke every time!

for the much needed advice. I'll proceed with these suggestions.

Bset regards,
