This "schrade Walden" has me totally confused. The shield on the grip is a round oval which I can't find on any other 881's.

And there is no 881Y number designation on the back of the main blade nor anywhere else on the knife. Basically blank blades with the exception of "Schrade Walden N.Y. USA" stamp.

The weird shield and lack of model number anywhere have me confused as to whether the parts from schrade walden were used on later schrades? I googled but came up with no answers.

Is this even an 881?

I'm 90% sure that knife was made shortly after Schrade closed it's doors in 2004 and the "Schrade Walden" name was re-issued through Taylor Brands. From what I have read in the past, that particular knife is modeled after the 881 and was likely made by Camillus. All in all not quite a "vintage" knife but it is USA made and I assume it is a pretty nicely made knife?

VP is correct, that knife was made for taylor by camillus post schrade bankruptcy. It's not a real schrade, but it is a quality knife.

Okay thanks guys! You are a wealth of information and help!

I was going to purchase this knife but now I am going to pass. I wanted a vintage.
