Help with sharpening - using the Spyderco Triangle

I have a new to me Sunfish. I just can't get a sharp edge on it with the Triangle. I'm using the 40 degree angle. Won't cut paper. Won't really cut a thin branch. It's just not getting sharp. I've had success with sharpening other knives with the same technique as I'm using with this Sunfish.

I don't have any other sharpening tools.

Any suggestions of what I could try with the Spyderco? I've followed all the steps in the video/booklet.

Thanks.

Start by using the sharpie method to see if you're actually sharpening the edge and not just the bevel. If you aren't getting to the edge, you need to reprofile. For that I recommend using the diamond stones for the sharpmaker (sold separately), or wrapping your existing stones in some 100-200 grit sandpaper. You do need to be careful that you get the wrap extremely tight and tape it up well, or the wrinkles/bowing in the paper will give you an uneven angle. This technique has worked for me in the past, hope it can be of use to you.

For quick and cheap wrap a slip of 180 grit Wet-or-Dry paper around each rod and secure with binder clips. That will cut a lot faster.

I gave the 180 grit sandpaper a try. It helped some with the main blade, didn't help at all with the secondary blade. I'm thinking this really shouldn't be so difficult, but perhaps it is. I'll order the diamond rods and give that a try.
