Hi guys, just joined today and this is my first topic of my own. I am contemplating ordering a small sebenza, already have a Large 21, and was hoping someone could post a pic of a small Sebenza Vs a benchmade 940/940-1 as a size comparison. Im just hesitant that the small will be TOO small. Being the 940-1 and my large carbon Sebbie are my two EDC's and favorite knives id really appreciate a member taking the time to post a 940 vs a Small sebbie that would be very helpful being i can not see one in person before ordering.

Here are some specs on the 940-1..
Overall Length: 7.87" Blade Length: 3.40" Blade Thickness: 0.12" Blade Material: CPM-S90V Hardness: 59-61 RC Blade Style: Reverse Tanto Blade Grind: Flat Blade Finish: Stonewash Edge Type: Plain Handle Length: 4.47" Handle Thickness: 0.41"

Here are the specs on the Sebenzas..
SPECIFICATIONS:
Blade Material:
CPM S35VN Stainless Steel
Blade Hardness:
58-59 RC
Blade Length:
Large - 3.625" (92 mm)
Small - 2.94" (75 mm)
Blade Thickness:
0.125" (3.175 mm)
Overall Length:
Large - 8.335" (212 mm)
Small - 6.875" (175 mm)
Handle Material:
6Al4V Titanium
Handle Thickness:
Large - 0.150" (3.81 mm)
Small - 0.125" (3.175 mm)

I would say this...from the specs you can see that the 940 handle length is 4.47".
the small Sebbie is 6.875" (total length) - 2.94" (blade length) = 3.935" handle length.
Your large Sebbie has a handle length of 4.71".

IMO, the small will be too small. At least, that is my opinion. Your hand size will be somewhat different.
Here is the small, large, and the Zaan.

Here is a large Sebbie in my hand...

...and a small Sebbie in my hand...

I cannot use a handle that is this short (the small). When I push on the lockbar to unlock the blade, the knife tends to move forward OUT of my hand.
Of course, your hand-size may be different.
I have found that I cannot use a handle that is shorter than 4.0" and I'm much happier with 4.2-4.4" as a minimum. I am quite happy with a Spyderco Sage 2, for instance... a handle-length of ~4.2".
Good luck.

Thank you very much for all of the details and mostly the pictures in hand and of the 940/small next to each other. Im thinking the small may just be too small in the handle, i think i will just order another large sebenza maybe with inlays or the regular TI slabs. I dont want to take a 400$ gamble on it and not wind up using it.
Do you guys use your smalls often? I wear a med/large glove and the smallest knife i have is a Caly 3 CF zdp which i dont carry much because the handle barely fits my hand, its a shame because i like that Caly haha.
Thanks again.

I get a ton of use out of my small sebbie. I typically carry it along with an Emerson CQC-8, Commander, or my ZT 0561, and I generally use it any time there are other people around that would be terrified by a "huge" knife that flies open at the speed of sound.

I too wear a M/L glove, and find that the small Sebbie is definitely a tight fit. I can get a four finger grip, but I'm holding the ENTIRE handle. That said, I find its size to be much more convenient for opening boxes/other delicate tasks. This is especially true for the insingo blade, since the blade geometry is very convenient for EDC tasks.

Thanks, i have been trying to like the insingo small but it just has almost zero penetraion capability, my benchmade 550 is a sheepsfoot sort of but i can still poke a hole in something with it, like plastic for example, the insingo doesnt look suitable to poking holes much. Crap i really cant decide, maybe since i have a large i could try a small and sell it if it doesnt fit my needs, i dont know. I like the small with the gabon ebony inlays and the knife art carbon fiber small as well. Too many damn decisions.

You'd be surprised how well the insingo can make holes in plastic packaging and the like. It's not able to make a tiny needle hole like a standard sebenza blade, but the tip is still very sharp and will slice a tiny slit with ease. I don't own an insingo small, but I've handled one and was impressed to the point that I seriously considered selling mine to pay for one. I would do everything you can to try handling both at a knife shop if possible, though since you posted here for pictures I'm guessing you don't have any CRK dealers nearby.

The small is great when wearing shorts or sweat pants. You don't even know you are carrying a knife.I have large hands and prefer a large knife, but the small fills a low profile and super lightweight need for me.The only type of 3 inch knife that is really comfortable for me to cut with have finger choils that allow me to choke up.The small works good and the insingo blade adds some variety to my rotation and piercing objects is not an issue.I am enjoying mine and I think you will to if you decide to splurge.

Im kind of swaying in the get another large direction, i dont have a plain large TI yet.
I think the small may just be too small and will wind up sitting in my safe 98% of the time.
