Help with sog spirit

hey can someone give me some advice on how to use the SOG spirit? i know it can be used with broom handles but i want to use it with a branch. the provided set screw is not actually long enough to make contact with any wood you would put in there. the screw does not go in further than the threads. do any of you guys have this spearhead? can you use a different screw or nail or something? im goin on my trip to cypress hills tomorrow and appearently there are lots of cougars at the moment... my seal pup elite wont cut it.

You are going to take on a Cougar with a knife? Good luck with that.
 
I was looking at that spear, and wondered if a broom handle with the metal threads would be stronger.
Taper the branch to match the socket shape, then use a nail. Appropriate size of course.
