How common are fake bugouts? A local flea market has a bugout and a mini bugout for $60 and $50. They are used, both come with the benchmade bag, but ......................only marking that I can find on either blade is S30v, no benchmade, no butterfly and no model number. I was ready to buy, but figured I had better do my research first.

The fakes are VERY common unfortunately. Also, some of them are very very good.

Without a butterfly on the blade it is definitely fake. As Jimmy said, there are a lot of fakes and some of them are very good and hard for us mere mortals to spot.

Standoffs are almost always the wrong color on the ones I've seen, and they look like they've been spray painted.

I've unfortunately bought a couple fakes back a couple years ago without knowing. The biggest thing is just the overall weight and balance is off. The scales are VERY flimsy and will bend into each other way to easily. That was the main thing for me.

A lot of them have been on EBAY for a while. Any product that originates in china is likely to be a fake. In addition many times it is not just a fake / counterfeit product the sale may just be a scam for a product that you will never receive. So, if it is too cheap then it is probably fake and if it is too expensive then it is a real Benchmade.

I just picked this up on here. How does it look? I think it’s real.. not sure though. It’s my first CF elite bugout. The thumb studs are shiny…. I’ve never seen that before. The blade grind is a little wonky also.
