The tension on my new SR1's lock bar is so stiff that it is very difficult to disengage the lock. Other than that I love the knife. It's just that it can be actually painful to unlock one handed with my thumb.

Anyone else have this issue? Anyone know if there is a way to lessen the tension on a ti lock bar?

Thanks.

Get some workout! Just strenghten your thumb ;) I think tension is ok. It could be a little bit more stiff like it was on the first batch.

I really hate knives with almost no stiffnes in lock. Those one that can be unlocked just by feather touch and thus much more prone to an accident (Kershaw Tilt is the best example or a lot of the Boker or Spyderco knives).
I think any knifemaker can adjust it for you but I think you void the waranty with this change.

This is not just a little stiffer. This is almost can't unlock it stiff.

But thanks for the advice.

I had a VERY stiff lock on my lionspy. I loved it. The lockbar insert locked against the blade tang very securly.

Try a little graphite from a pencil. Rub it on the knife tang. Maybe the lock is a little sticky?

Just go through many (hundreds) open/close cycles and it'll loosen up. My beastiest LionSteel in that regard was LionSpy (Spyderco / LionSteel collaboration).

I simply adore a good stiffy, when we are talking lockbar's that is!! I have been known to disassemble framelocks in order to put addtional bend into the lockbar to make it stiffer. This was one thing that really got my attention on the first SR-1 I received, that being how they were able to get the lockbar so stiff on the monoblock handle. I don't know how this is accomplished but it is and I really like it. But as a couple have said, pencil lead (graphite) or even "painting" the tang with a sharpie can do the same thing, which is to keep the lock from sticking and making the lockbar easier to unlock. If it is not this, and not a girly-man thing;), but rather the bar just being too stiff to push over, then yes, some thumb workouts may be necessary:eek:
