Help with strop and Dia-Paste

Hi,

I carry M4 RSK's and CRK Sebenza and Umnumzaan.

I usually use a DMT Dia-Fold C/F and EF/EEF for freehand in the field sharpening.

I currently also have a budget two-sided leather strop, on which I put Dia-Paste 6 micron and 1 micron.

Two questions:

1. Is it ok to go from 6 micron to 1 micron? Or was that dumb and should I also buy 3 micron.

2. I didn't mark my strop =( so now I don't remember which side was which. Any ways to figure this out?

To figure out which it which use a penny or other piece of scrap copper and make a few passes on each side, see which side "cleans" the penny more, that's your lower grit.
 
Going from 6 to 1 is fine it will just take longer to refine it. Are the paste the same color? I thought the 6 micro paste I had was green and the 1 was like tan. I take a bronze washer and rub it on each one and see which one shines more.
 
A ha! Good idea gents! I knew BF would come through.

Yeah, they are different colors in the tube, but on the leather they end up looking the same (to my eye).
