Hi I am relatively new to the forumn and think this is great!. love the responses of all.
I have a request to ask if i may. i'm in the process of starting a new survival kit. my very first one and have no idea what to put inside but the basics. plase advice of what you have in your kit and that how i might add it to mine.
i understand the basics go in first, but well the more the better right. i mean its like putting gas in your car, youde rather have more gas then have little or non when it comes down to the nitty gritty hehe.
any thing that goes in the kit would be great. thanks.

It really depends on the size of the container you want to carry. Obviously you can't carry a boat load of supplies.(Unless you're on a boat!

) A small bare bones kit should have:
Fire starter (matches, sparking rod)
Wire
Fishing line
Razor blade
Hooks
Needles
Tape
Aluminum foil
All this will fit easily in a pocket and has many survival applications. Check out Hoods Woods at www.survival.com They have an excellent video on making and using the mini and maxi survival kits. You'd think I worked for them I reccomend them so much, but there is alot of knowledge there.

My kit contains the following:

01) Container / (2) Cups
01) Instruction Card
01) $5.25 US Funds
01) ATT Phone Card
01) ACR Whistle
01) Signaling Mirror
01) Photon Micro-Light
01) Surveyors Tape, 10’
01) Pencil
10) Note Paper 1”x2”
01) Spark-Lite Device
10) Tinder-Quik Tabs
01) Metal Match
01) Striker / Hacksaw
01) Space Blanket
01) GI Toilet Paper
01) Water Bag, 32oz
50) Potable Aqua Tabs
01) GI Can Opener
01) Fishing Kit
01) Snare Wire, 15’
01) Cordage, 15’
01) GI Sewing Kit
01) Kevlar Thread, 50’
02) Sewing Awls
01) Brunton Compass
01) Swiss Army Knife (Classic)
01) Knife Sharpener

It all fits in the slide apart white plastic container from a US GI Pilots Survival Vest and measures approx 3.5 x 4 x 1.5" and weighs about 1/2 pound.

It is supplemented with a small First Aid Kit, similar to the Coghlan's Pack II, but customized to meet my specific needs.

Additionally, it is supplemented by my "always carry" items; a SAK Soldier, a Spyderco Wegner Jr, and a Fallkniven WM-1.
