Hi guys, I would like to know if I switch from one to another will I loose everything I have done on the forum? For example will my screen name stay as it is and my avatar or will I have to reregester and start all over? I would hate to loose my 700+ posts and start from scratch!!!:barf: :( I pay about $22.00 a month for MSN and I can get AOL through my work for under $10.00 a month so I can save alot!!

Nope... you don't lose anything (here anyways). Just remember your password. I log on here from two different computers from two different ISPs. No difference. My avatar is the same dopey looking guy on both machines. If you're still unsure go to your local library and log in from one of their machines.

No - you won't lose anything at all. Think of your internet provider as a key to a room. Changing the locks on the door to the room doesn't change what's actually inside the room.

As BruiseLee said, if you have internet access multiple places you could log into this forum (and everywhere else you'r registered, e.g. yahoomail, &c.) with no problem. If you could find a connexion in Kathmandu you could log in from there and nothing would be different (other than it might run very slowly ;) ).

Your posts and everything on the forum exists on some external computer somewhere (or perhaps on multiple computers), maybe it's a computer in Hawaii, who knows? But changing internet providers or changing computers, &c. won't change anything on the forum or anywhere else for that matter. Both your computer & your IP are just gateways into the web.

On different providers, I typically use Netzero, which is, I think, US$9.95 a month. I'm not a big fan of AOL myself and I haven't had many problems with NetZero. If you're interested, check out:

http://www.netzero.net

(in fact, if you're not on the internet very much you can actually get NetZero for FREE, but you're limited to so many hours a month)

cheers, B.

No worries SkagSig.

I don't like AOL because they (generally) charge more than they should but their advertising campaigns mean that people who don't investigate other less obvious options end up paying more than they need to. Typically I think AOL is US$20/month. But if you can get a special deal for $10/month there's probably nothing wrong with that. Though NetZero is a good provider (and it's nice for people who only check email or don't spend much time on the Internet because they can sign up for completely free service).

good luck with it. cheers, B.

My avatar? hehe, long story...

I drew it myself on PC paint. :) Sort of a self-portrait of me holding a flower looking rejected. Here's a larger version... snif... :(

I started with AOL simply because it was on the computer and ready to go when I was getting started. I paid $20 per month until I got DSL then the price dropped to $9.95. I stay with them because of my website and email address. I hate to change that. If I had it to do all over again and knew as much -- or little, perhaps is better -- I'd get my own domaine.

Well, Chris, if you get on AOL at least we can do IM with ease.

Where do you get your avatars and how do you put one under your name? As Uncle said about losing e-mail when changing ISPs, I did that when switching to DSL. I was with PeoplePC (good dial-up) and forgot to get some messages left on the server. Wish I had them now. Uncle why don't you get your own domain and just move the web page to it?
