Trying to figure out the different types of kuhks.

I am looking at the DOTD, and two Khuks, the BAS and the AK are within 2 oz of each other and look very similar. What is the difference between these two knives besides the name?

Also, the deradune I purchased is 19" and 36 oz, how does it differ from an ASTK apart from the lanyard hole? It looks very similar.

Well my ASTK has a lanyard hole & is 18 & 3/4 - 19 " long & weighs 42 oz
I know the 15" Ang Khola is their best seller & the British Army Service is the 2nd best seller, so you can't go wrong with either one or any H.i. Khukuri for that Matter :D

The following is from the Himalayan-imports.com site
The Ang Khola has a characteristic forged depression that helps to distribute the weight forward on the blade, making the Ang Khola a powerful chopper.
Ang Khola means “back-valley” or "back-hollow", referring to the depression near the spine ('back') of the blade.

Our second best seller. This is the same size and style khukuri (but considerably better quality) that is carried by present day Gurkhas serving in the British Army.
15 inches, horn handle, Wt. 1.25lbs. Battle tested and proven.

It's hard to see from the pics, but there are alot of differences in edge geometry and blade profile when you see them up close.

The AK and BAS are very different in profile, the blade on an AK of the same size tends to be a lot taller in the sweet spot area, along with the nice fuller (hollow forge indention) above the sweet spot.

I find the AK to be much choppier than a BAS, but the BAS is generally more versatile.

I'll see if I can get a side-by-side of my BAS and AK, they're very similarly sized.

If I only had to pick one khukri, I'd probably just die instead.

Thanks, now that I am looking more carefully at the photos I see the depression in the AK. Not a very subtle difference, can't believe I overlooked it. I must need more coffee. I"m still thinking BAS for a light packing knife, it was suggested to me by shortwinger. I got some real good advice in that other thread.

LOL.

I almost died when I saw that the 2/8 Sirupate was sold.

I saw it before it was sold and I was an idiot for not grabbing it, won't happen again.
