I recently aquried this TGLB and would like some help with it.
As you can see,the coating has been removed leaving what looks to be some of the coating behind.
Can I remove this,if so how?
Any and all help much appreciated, thankyou.

I've never removed the coating, but from pics here that looks like decarb. From what I've read decarb is a layer under the coating. It is removable and from what I've read should be, to avoid rust issues. Try a search on stripping and decarb removal, there's a lot of info in here on the topic. Hope that helps, also nice knife congrats !!

No problem, sorry couldn't help more. Never stripped the coating off yet so I can't speak from experience. Although I'm sure someone who has will be along with more info. Keep us posted how you make out

At that stage I would use scotch brite pads and/or 00 (double ought) steel wool. Then 800 grit wet sand, going up in grit to the level of shine you want.

Am i the only one that thinks that really worn finish looks pretty cool?

I love that look.

I agree with Elly, it does look good.

But if I really wanted to remove it, perhaps I'd start with very fine Stainless Steel Wool and take it from there. The Stainless wool can get into every nook and would make short work of removing it by hand.

Agree. Matches the scales well.
I have a couple that I stripped to that point, and didn't have any problem with rust.
Yet I have one that I have stripped, sanded, polished, sanded, scotchbrited, etc., until parts of it shine. Yet there are a couple of patches of decarb that I can't quite get off completely. Those rust, nasty red rust, within 3 or 4 days, in an air conditioned environment (so humidity controlled, if not exactly low). If you don't have rust already, I'd leave it as it. Looks good.

Tried to remove coating as suggested,no go,even tried paint stripper!
Then tried to wear it off by chopping up an old step tread made of Australian Spotted Gum.
All ive noticed is the coating is a shade lighter, and the blade wont shave anymore.
So i just say to myself,"stuff it" and leave it as it is.
