I have read about this knife but can't get a good guest of the year it might have been made. On the blade it only has SCHRADE + on the first line closest to the hinge of the blade. Then the second line has U.S.A. LB 7, with no other numbers or words. The leather case is very worn. I got this from my Uncle Luke who said he carried it with him for the 7 tours he did in the Vietnam War. It was a gift to him from one of his brothers. Any help would be greatly appreciated, because I am planning on gifting this to my oldest son who collects knives.

It couldn't have been an LB7 in Vietnam, as Schrade didn't start production on that model till late 77 - 78. What could've happened is maybe he had a Buck 110, and the Schrade came along as a replacement. The Buck 110 was around since 1964 and was very popular. The 110 and the LB7 are very close in looks, size, etc.... Enough that a non-collector wouldn't notice a difference.

Here's the 78 announcement of the model -

I believe that plus sign indicates stainless steel.
The much rarer version (no plus sign); is just high carbon...
I just bought this one. The fella said it might be more than 30 years old...
