Help with too tight kydex?

Not sure which forum this should go in, so if it needs to be moved that's cool:)

I have a kydex horizontal sheath for a multi-tool that's just too darn tight. I actually have to take it off my belt and pound on it to get the tool out. I don't want to say who made it as the workmanship is awesome and it's probably just a matter of personal preference as to how tight it should be.

I'm wondering if any of the kydex wizards out there could tell my how to loosen it up a bit? I thought about blow dryers and the oven, but I'd really rather not just start experimenting. I know I'd ruin it:p

Any suggestions:confused:

TIA

Don't mean to get off topic, but when I read the title of this thread, I suddenly had a mental picture of Angela Jolie wearing too tight kydex... :D

You can use a blow drier or a heat gun to help fix the tight areas. Don't stick it in the oven, or you'll deform the whole thing.

You could e-mail the maker and ask his or her advice too. If I made something not to the standards of my customer, I'd want to know so I could help the customer and improve myself.

Ask Normark or Chiro75 as well, they know their stuff.

Being that Kydex is form-fitted to the knife/tool that it's made for, make sure that the tool isn't inserted either up-side-down or backwards. Also, if the sheath is held together by screws, you might want to loosen them a little bit. Also, check to make sure that there aren't any "burrs" left on the inside of the sheath.

If these ideas don't help, contact the maker before you try anything more drastic.

Kydex gets soft at 300 degrees, if you have a heat gun, put it on low and move it around alot, you don't want to get it too hot, it will deform.

I would sent it back. your first time to work with it, you'll probably bugger it up. I know it took me some practace to do it right, and even then it's easy to mess up.

Hey Lanny....

I can tell you who made it...

I did..:)

Don't know about you but I prefer'm Tight..:p

Seriously though...

I'll e-mail you the fix for it,, but actually your idea sounded pretty good to me.. May work....

If you can't get it to fit properly.. I'll personally make you another,,not like the one you got that my 8 year old made.. LOL:)

I'll be in touch shortly..

Eric:

You were not supposed to tell anyone:rolleyes:

Now some troll will post something about your quality control and try and convince people every single thing you do is not perfect.

People will stop havingflame wars about Emerson quality control and start having them about On-Scene Tactical quality control.

The Forum will totally go to heck:p

BTW, tell your 8 year old he does really good work:)

Thanks for the help.

Lanny

Canadian sheathmaker, Eric Noeldechen, of On/Scene Tactical fame, confessed today to running a sweatshop manned by child labor. Mr. Noeldechen has since been unavailable for comment.

Oh, you've had it now, mister......

Trolling,
Owen

You could always beltsand down the tool to make it fit better? Ok...not a great idea but it was the first thing I could think of...;)

That Eric, hmmmm likes things tight?....lets not go there!
