I am going to be in Germany and the UK on business at the end of the month. Can anyone tell me if there would be a problem with a SAK super tinker and a Merlin or Matriarch.
Can anyone recomend any cutlery shops in Hamburg?
Thanks in advance

You should have no problem with those knives in Germany.
In UK any of these knives can get you in trouble. (even the SAK)

hope this helps

Well once you leave the plane you won't run into any troubles in germany. In most places you can carry anything (fixed, folder, two-handed battle sword, whatever).
One small restriction is that automatic knives may not have a blade length of more than 3.3" (8.5 cm). Another restriction is that you may not go to public events, e.g. an annual fair, with knives that can be considered to be mainly a "weapon" (usually that refers to two edged blades like daggers or larger blades). For large political meetings special rules apply, you may not carry any edged tool or weapon there.

In a nutshell: You won't run into any troubles with any of the knives you mentioned. Hope you have a pleasant time in our country :)

Legally you wont have problems in Germany but be aware that a lot of people here might be scared and feel threatened if you take out a Merlin or Matriarch in public. Be rather carefull with them. Also some discos don't allow knives. So entering a disco even a SAK might get you in trouble

I'm no expert on British law. But I think all locking knives are forbidden. However you see lots of people with SAKs or Leathermans there so I figure these should be ok even if not exactly legal. Ask the General he's a forumite from the UK and knows the laws.

Here are three shops I can recommend:
Hoerning u. co. (close to the central station)
Lilienstr 2-8
20095HH

Odins Klinge (Pretty big selection, including Microtech and Mission)
Gärtnerstr 24
20253 HH

Globetrotter Ausrüstung (Excellent Outfitter for all sorts of outdoor activities)
wiesendamm 1
22305 HH

Take care,
Tobse !

Thanks everyone for the replys. Culter I agree about being carful about pulling the Matriarch or the Merlin out. It tends to scare the hell out of the sheeple even though there is nothing to be scared of.

it was the first time I carried NO knives at all.

I read an article about a newspaper seller who used a ordinary pocket knife and was arrested.

I was on a train and saw a beverage seller with a sak waiter.

I would be careful about using one at all.

good luck

chris

Ps don't eat the food :barf: in england :barf:

Last I heard, the law in the UK was that pocket knives must e non-locking with blades under 3". Larger and locking knives can be carried if one can give a reason (self-defense is not acceptable) for carry. I think that as a tourist, unless you are going hunting or camping, you better stick to small slipjoints. I have been to the UK twice and I had no problems carrying a SAK Electrician.

Hey Chris, don't be unfair on the food in good old England. Just be carefull that it doesn't get drenched in vinegar :D
