Help with "Urban Bowie"

About 15 or 20 years ago, while in the USA on vacation, I read an article about a custom made knife called "The Urban Bowie". It was strictly a combat/defense blade and was equipped with a concealment rig that could be worn under a suit jacket. I promised myself that on my next visit stateside I would follow up on this monster and get one for myself.

I loaned out the magazine containing the info and never got it back. After looking at the Ontario/Bagwell line, I remembered the Urban Bowie and wondered who the maker was and what ever happened to him.

Any other old timers out there who can shed some light on this?

Blackdog,

Could the knife have been called the "Inner City Bowie"? If so, the maker is John M. Smith out of Centralia Illinois.

Les, you've just answered something that's been bugging me for a long, long time. They say wisdom comes with age. In my case it just brought a bald spot and failing eyesight. Urban Bowie, Jeeezzz.....

If you want the right answer, I guess you have to (1) Ask the right question and (2) Ask the right person.

Thanks Les. You've made my whole week.

I think that Inner City Bowie article in Fighting Knives was extremely effective. Ive talked to many folks that remember that article. Too bad that they are nearly impossible to obtain.

I still have that issue and catch myself looking at that knife every few months.

Matt.
