Help with USN PAL 35 Mk 1

The knife has a loose crossguard and pommel- I've tightened the crossguards on leather-stacked handles before by wrapping thin cord between the leather washer and the guard, then smoothing a layer of plumbers putty in the gap formed by the thread. Works well.

The pin that passes through the pommel is loose on the tang- the fit of the pin/pommel itself is tight. Any fix?

This knife is not a "keeper" collecter-wise, I'll use it if the looseness can be remedied.
