I need help getting a letter of estimated value for a knife I mailed that usps lost

It was the last birthday gift I ever received from my father before he passed away in 1992, if anyone knows someone who can help me with this I am down to 11 days of their required time for me to prove what it’s worth. I tried to explain it was a gift given to me when I was a child over 30 years ago, but they said I have to find someone that can write me a letter of estimated value. I have tried an armory store and antique shop and a jeweler, and no one would write the letter , does anyone have any suggestions? I estimated the value around 100$. Only thing I can find is similar knives on eBay that just recently in poor condition sold for 30$. I was sending it to a restoration company to make it new again.
I’d rather have the knife back.

Thanks. I’m looking for some actual help. Not sarcasm.
How do you get that without having a physical knife.

Good Sir. I no makey the rules. You're asking to assign a market value to a knife. You're expecting someone to ask what kind. Then, you'll tell us. Bit by bit.

It's an appraisal. Requires a Gold membership.

Theres really nothing anyone can do without seeing (at least) pictures of the knife. That might be why you couldnt get help before from anyone, they need to see the knife to know the value. And the post office needs more than your guess at value (fair enough, or else you could say that it was a million dollar knife). Also, there is no need to be rude to people here even if you are frustrated (even when they are being unhelpful). What you are doing is technically against the rules as silly as that is, and you arent being very helpful if you just ask "How much is my knife worth? Trust me, it was really cool". If you really want help here just pay for the membership, it doesnt cost that much.

Bottom line, $100 wont make you feel any better about them losing a priceless gift. Im sorry that happened to you but if you cant get an appraiser (and it seems like you cant) then you may be out of luck. I really dont think anyone can help you here. I think you might just need to keep hoping the post office will come through for you while you take the money you can get and sit down and have a good cry. Good luck, and I am sorry that that happened. That really sucks.

USPS?

An appraisal to the federal government for a claim?

Someone to put their name behind the assigned market value?

Yeah. Good luck.

The value of a used knife is highly dependent on the condion. I doubt that anyone would be able to provide any kind of valuation estimate without handling the knife.
Checking eBay as you have done is one avenue.
Checking sites which sell used knives such as Pinterest and All About Pocket Knives is another.

Having said that, I'll need to close this thread.
