So here is my dilemma. I do a lot of hiking and backpacking. Most of my knives have leather puch style sheeths. I like to carry a small fixed blade while I am on the move int he woods. The problem is most of my shorts/pants that i wear have the built in belts that do not allow for a place to attach a sheath. So I am looking for a device that can attach to the thin nylon style hiking/convertable pants/shorts i wear that I can attach a knife two. The knife sheaths I have that has a clip style are not a problem. It's the ones that have a belt loop that I can not put on my side. Does anyone know ofa device that basicaly clips to your pants like a paddle holster and then has a way to secure a belt loop style sheath?

Thanks and be safe
Adam

Can you fit a mini carabiner clip to your built in belt? Take a large split ring and put it through the sheath's belt loop, then clip the ring onto the carabiner.

That's how I carry my keys, and it makes a decent dangler set-up for the knives I've tried it with.

That is how I carry all my sheath knives
So all my knives become Danglers
And I can take them off my belt by simply unclipping them

And if you use the small carabiners on molle straps it is very easy to move a knife off your pack onto your belt

Buy a cheap paddle holster from whatever store/gun show and then mod it to fit your knife? That's what I'd do.

Use this as an opportunitity to try a new wardrobe by getting yourself a good solid leather belt and pants that can accomodate it. You may really enjoy the sturdy secure feeling of a good belt holding up your knife on your person. There are also members here that make some great gun and knife belts. I will warn you that it is addictive and you may have a hard time taking the knife off of your belt should that need arise.

Adam,

I've been in your position for years. I have several light weight pants/shorts where the belt is not exposed at all.

I've worn neckers and made pocket sheaths.

It is a pain to have a full size (8" to 9" oal) knife in your pocket or around you neck.

What type of knife are you carrying ?

If it is small knife a pocket sheath from Sharpshooter works well but the type of pants that you use don't always have normal style pockets like jeans do so you fear loosing the knife when sitting down or other times.

I've never really found a surefire solution.

It has to be hot and humid in Panama City and I totally understand wearing that type of clothing. A belt and heavy pants under a pack strap when its' hot is a pain.

A light weight necker and a heavier blade in the pack is one of the best solutions IMO.

What about using a web belt 'alice clip'? You would have to punch two holes in your leather sheaths though. Place the alice clip over your belt, slide it through the two holes in your sheath and its attached. You could also attach it to a belt loop.

His pants don't have an exposed belt or belt loops ....

I have similar issues if wanting to use fell running gear which has an elastic and cord tie waist. Here is a pic of the sheaths I use for my Phil Wilson knife ...

I either use a leather sheath with a rawhide cord and wear it like a bandolier or I clip a kydex sheath into the waist band. That little clip accessory is done by Jeff at Rainwalker Creations ( google Rainwalker Sheaths for his website ) and if you speak to him I am sure he will do you one of those with a thick rubber press stud loop which you can use to enable your belt loop pouch sheaths to be piggy backed to the kydex fitting.

Maybe Baldric carry? Kinda like a necker but lower and to one side like a messenger bag.

all of my britches have belt loops. I have not even thought about what to do with pants that don't.

That is a pet peeve of mine with outdoor clothing- pants with no belt loops. Probably intended for wearing backpacks with waist straps, the idea being a leather belt underneath the waist strap would be uncomfortable. I've not found this to be the case, and elastic waistbands with no belt loops disqualifies pants for me. It's undignified.

Anyways, it would not be difficult to sew on an attachment point for a dangler.

I would sew a small plastic "D" ring just under the "belt tunnel" in the pants then just dangle the knife .
